History

Antrobus was founded by Anne Deakin and Allan Tarver in 1992. These two former partners sold the practice to Mike Kirby early in 2006, but both continue to play an active role.

Meet the Team

In August 2008, we had a Team Building Session at Denbies Winery in Dorking. It was a fantastic day and gave the team a great chance to bond and get to know each other, please see team photo below.

Mike Kirby
Mike acquired Antrobus in April 2006 from Allan Tarver and Anne Deakin. He has a B.Sc. in Economics from London University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Touche Ross & Co in London in 1978. He spent 6 years in the profession in the UK and Brussels, before going into industry. After 25 years in senior industry roles, notably in IT companies, he has returned to his roots, but brings with him the wide ranging commercial experience he has gained over the years.

Sarah Macnaughton 
Sarah has worked for Antrobus since 1997 when she joined us straight from university having gained an HND in Business and Finance. She is now a fully qualified Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA). Sarah is Accounts and Audit Manager at Antrobus.

Becky James
Becky is an Accountant who is now in the final stages of her ACCA qualification. Her main duties involve audit & accounts preparation, company administration, bookkeeping for a variety of clients and some tax returns.  Becky has been with us for over 7 years. She graduated from Portsmouth University with a BSc in Mathematics for Finance and Management and joined us after working in the payroll department of a busy employment agency. In her spare time, Becky enjoys socialising and traveling to various exotic locations!

Shirley LeWarne
Shirley joined Antrobus in August 2002 as a part-time Bookkeeper and Administrator, using MYOB accounts and various software packages. Previously, Shirley was a bank clerk for over 15 years. After leaving the bank in 1998 she helped run her husband’s business for 4 years using Sage Line 50 accounts. She is married to Peter and they have 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren.

Leslie Crowie
Leslie has been with Antrobus since 2003 and handles payroll matters for Antrobus’ clients.

Amanda Gale
Amanda has been with Antrobus for almost 11 years, following a career in Education. She works as Business Centre Supervisor, looking after reception and managing our tenants and mail and telephone accommodation clients.  Amanda also administers First Friday, a not-for-profit monthly lunchtime networking organisation for local business people.

Alex Kirby
Alex joined Antrobus in May 2008. After spending the previous year working and travelling in Australia, she is now working at Antrobus as Marketing Assistant. She also helps Amanda in reception when necessary. Alex has a 2.1 in English Literature from Kent University.

Mick Gent
After 32 years as an engineer in the Royal Navy travelling the world and seeing the sights, Mick decided to try something completely different and studied accounting for 5 years at South Downs & Chichester College.  Mick started a bookkeeping business in June 1995, and then became an MYOB Certified Consultant in 1996.  Mick ran his own consultancy business until March 2008 when he joined forces with Antrobus.  His hobbies are golf, cooking and travelling.  

Sarah Cogman
Sarah joined Antrobus in July 2008 to train as an Accounts Technician and assist with administration.  She has approximately 15 years varied office experience. 

Ian Watts
Ian joined Antrobus as an Accountant after spending the last 14 years working for an international company as their finance manager responsible for all management information and financial reporting.  In addition to this he was responsible for the global distributor network, a role which required attendance at various trade exhibitions worldwide. Prior to working in the industry Ian qualified as an Accounting Technician gaining experience within the accountancy profession whilst working with a local firm, Barter Dugan, and the Petersfield office of Grant Thornton.    

Tricia Wilson
Tricia joined Antrobus in August 2008 as an Accountant with 3 years accountancy experience.  She graduated from Portsmouth University with a 1st class honours in Mathematics in 2005, and is currently studying for her ACCA qualification.

Clive Grinter
Clive joined Antrobus in October 2008 as a Tax Specialist.  Clive has over 20 years experience in personal taxation, learning the trade at HMRC before moving into private practice.  The last 13 years have been spent working at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young. 

Robert Stephens
Rob joined Antrobus in July 2008 as a Trainee Accountant after completing his A Levels.  He is currently studying towards his AAT qualification.  

Keith Thomas
Keith is an Certified Financial Planner (CFP) – a highly qualified Independent Financial Advisor – who became available as a Consultant for Antrobus clients in September 2007.  Keith has over 16 years experience in Financial Services having started out with Sun Life. He has been independent for more than 11 years and a CFP for more than 6 years. He must enjoy driving (or sitting in traffic) because he travels down from Epsom and enjoys regular trips to Bristol to mark papers for the Institute of Financial Planning.
